No Child Labor in Fast Food

Big fast-food companies are employing children as young as ten years old to work in dangerous conditions. They also work hours so long that it negatively impacts their education.

Child labor in the US is a growing problem. From 2015 to 2022, the number of minors employed in violation of child labor laws rose by 283%.

There have been nearly six times as many child labor law violations in the food service industry in the last ten years.

While many states allow teenagers to work a limited number of hours at fast-food restaurants, child labor laws exist so that children aren’t working so many hours that they fall behind in school or work with dangerous equipment that may physically harm them.

Don’t let these massive fast-food chains get away with endangering children. Demand McDonald’s, Jersey Mike’s, Sonic Drive-In, Baskin-Robbins, and Chick-fil-A put an end to child labor.

I believe that your company values ethical business practices and does not wish to profit from exploitative child labor. Despite existing policies, and steps taken in response to federal investigations, numerous child labor cases in your operations demonstrate the need for urgent improvements to ensure children are not being exploited.

I respectfully urge you to:

1. Establish Effective Grievance Mechanisms and Whistleblower Protections

2. Ensure complete supply chain transparency and traceability

3. Collaborate with Labor Unions and Prioritize Worker-driven Approaches

4. Adopt Responsible Recruitment Practices throughout your supply chain

5. Fund substantial assistance for children who have been illegally employed

6. Support the Campaign to End U.S. Child Labor's legislative agenda

Addressing child labor requires a holistic approach. As a consumer, I expect your company to implement these recommendations comprehensively, demonstrating genuine commitment to eliminating exploitative child labor from all your operations.
