Tell your NY State Representative: Stop Insurance Companies from Pricing Us Out of Our Homes

Insurers are slashing coverage, hiking rates, and backing fossil fuel projects at New Yorkers’ expense—demand accountability by urging your representatives to support the Insure Our Communities Act.

New Yorkers are being slammed with home insurance rate hikes and coverage cuts due to climate change.

State lawmakers are taking steps to rein in this outrage with the Insure Our Communities Act — a bill that would:

• Establish requirements for insurers to make community investments in disadvantaged communities.
• Require public disclosure of rates and coverage by census block, so that insurers can’t get away with redlining.
• Prohibit insurers from dropping coverage for a year after a disaster.

This is a strong bill. But it won’t pass unless more representatives sign on to support it. Send an email to your representative and urge them to co-sponsor the Insure Our Communities Act.
