#CleanUpWireless

Tell Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile to Clean Up Wireless

The telecommunications industry contributes 2.5% of our global greenhouse gas emissions and consumes an enormous amount of electricity from fossil fuels each year.

When we first launched our Hang Up on Fossil Fuels campaign in 2017, the big three telecoms companies—Verizon, T-Mobile, and AT&T—were using almost 0% clean energy and since have made some great progress on switching to renewable energy thanks to you calling them out. But, as we show in our latest report, AT&T and Verizon are still using a great deal of fossil fuels to drive their profits.

AND none of the companies have taken significant enough steps to address Energy Justice Issues in the contracts they have with power companies. Green America strongly believes that as these companies make the transition to clean energy, they must use their market power to benefit  the communities most harmed by fossil fuels. You can read more about the companies’ grades on both renewables and Energy Justice here.

We need much more progress in this sector to #cleanupwireless! With the harsh impacts of the climate crisis already being felt by communities worldwide, we need aggressive commitments. There’s no time to wait.

Please tell Verizon and AT&T to make 100% clean energy a high priority in 2023. And they along with T-Mobile need to do much, much more to address Energy Justice.

Tell Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile to Clean Up Wireless

It's time to switch to 100% clean energy

As a concerned consumer, your companies need to understand there are measurable, grave effects of climate change, already being felt by many of communities you serve. I believe it is urgent that every company do all in its power to reduce its environmental footprint. Your companies have taken some first steps on clean energy and setting timelines to reduce carbon emissions. Thank you for taking these important steps forward to curb your emissions and support clean energy. But more needs to be done. And quickly.

AT&T and Verizon have not yet made commitments to 100% renewable energy. And T-Mobile along with AT&T and Verizon all need to do more to ensure Energy Justice is addressed with the energy companies you do business with. It is frontline communities that most feel the effects of not just the pollution near the facilities producing power but also the effects of the climate crisis.

I am joining Green America in urging all of you to use your market power to take action by making a commitment to increase the amount of renewable energy powering your networks, with a goal of 100% clean energy from solar and wind by 2025. And also address Energy Justice as business as usual going forward with all your contracts.
