Green America

AT&T and Verizon dominate the telecom industry in the US. But one area where neither company has been a leader is in using renewable energy.

Verizon uses a massive amount of energy, but less than a mere 2% of it is renewable. Thanks to consumer pressure from this campaign, AT&T has announced contracts to purchase 520 MW of power from wind farms. But even with this progress, AT&T is still only sourcing 20% of its electricity from renewables, and Verizon has not made any similar commitments. We need to keep the pressure on both companies to commit to 100%!

This is an achievable goal for telecom companies. T-Mobile has announced it is moving to 100% renewable energy by 2021, and has raised the bar for the industry for clean energy commitments. Tech giants, like Google and Apple, are also way ahead of AT&T and Verizon in using clean energy. With the Trump Administration pulling the US out of the Paris Climate Accords, it’s time for all companies to take action to create the clean energy future we need.

Join us in calling on AT&T and Verizon to hang up on fossil fuels and become leaders for sustainability.
