Green America: Growing the Green Economy for People and the Planet

TELL AT&T AND VERIZON: HANG UP ON FOSSIL FUELS

AT&T and Verizon dominate the telecom industry in the US. But one area where neither company is a leader is in using renewable energy.

The telecommunications industry contributes 2.5% of our global greenhouse gas emissions, comparable to the entire aviation industry. AT&T and Verizon have made declarations supporting sustainability, but renewable energy accounts for less than 2 % of AT&T and Verizon’s energy portfolio, and a lot of those “renewables” are fuel cells powered by natural gas.

We rely on these companies’ networks to bring people together, to share ideas and news. We shouldn't have to compromise the planet to stay connected and informed.

Tech giants, like Google and Apple, are way ahead of AT&T and Verizon in using clean energy, and so is smartphone competitor Sprint. With the Trump Administration pulling the US out of the Paris Climate Accords, it’s time for all companies to take action to create the clean energy future we need. It’s time for telecom giants AT&T and Verizon to move forward on wind and solar power.

Join us in calling on AT&T and Verizon to hang up on fossil fuels and become leaders for sustainability.
