Mondelez: Remove GMOs and Artificial Ingredients from Oreos
More than 70 million Oreos are sold every day, in more than 100 countries around the world. Americans alone spend nearly a billion dollars on Oreos each year.
Whether or not you like Oreos, it’s undeniable that “America’s #1 cookie” has a major impact on our food system because of their reliance on GMOs and industrial farming.
Many of the main ingredients in Oreos are genetically engineered (GE or GMO). The high fructose corn syrup, beet sugar, and soy lecithin in Oreos are all derived from GE crops.
GMOs are engineered to work in conjunction with toxic agrochemicals such as glyphosate, the main ingredient in Monsanto’s Roundup. Glyphosate has been deemed a probable carcinogen, is linked to negative health impacts, and has caused the development of superweeds.
Tell Mondelez that GMOs, and their associated chemicals have no place in Oreo cookies and other snack foods that are marketed to children and families. It’s time for America’s #1 cookie to be non-GMO!
