Dear Green American ,
Happy Pollinator Week! We have important news to share - and an equally important action for you to take.
After six months of campaigning for non-GMO Honey Nut Cheerios and third-party verification of non-GMO original Cheerios, we finally received a response from the executive offices at General Mills.
"We've not made a decision on third-party verification. But as to further changes, or changes to other products, we have been straightforward. No other changes are planned...widespread use of GM seed in crops such as corn, soy, or beet sugar would make reliably moving to non-GM ingredients on many of our other cereals difficult, if not impossible."
Once upon a time, General Mills said that removing GMO ingredients from yellow-box, original Cheerios was impossible. With your help, we can give General Mills the reminder they need to reconsider. Together, we can get GMOs out of Honey Nut Cheerios – America’s #1 breakfast cereal.
Join our National Call-In Day and tell General Mills to get back on the non-GMO track. It only takes a few minutes, and with every call General Mills receives, company executives will know that consumers will not rest until GMOs are out of their Cheerios. These calls are important because each one is answered by a real person, costing the company real money, and every call must be documented.
To make a call today, follow the steps below:
Prepare your statement using the sample script below. Feel free to add any additional concerns or questions:
“As a concerned consumer, I'm calling to urge General Mills to secure third-party verification for non-GMO original Cheerios. Without a visible label on the front of the box, and without third-party verification, it is hard for consumers to know or feel assured that original Cheerios are non-GMO. I would also like to urge General Mills to continue removing GMOs from its other products, starting with Honey Nut Cheerios, and commit to implementing measures that will help reduce the use of toxic pesticides which put human, environmental, and pollinator health at risk."
