Dear Green American ,
This month, we celebrate National Pollinator Week from June 16th – 22nd.
The unanimous US Senate vote seven years ago instated an official week each year to reflect upon and take action to address the urgent issue of declining pollinator populations. Pollinators—bees, birds, butterflies, bats, beetles, and others—are vital to our food supply and ecosystem and positively impact all of our lives. We can thank pollinators for every third bite of food we take. Check out our blog post where we call on General Mills to stand up for pollinators! Keep an eye out for details on a national call-in day of action planned for Monday, June 16th.
TAKE ACTION TODAY: Say No to Honey Nut GMOs and sign our petition!
Recap: "What the Starbucks?!" Protest in Washington, DC
Last week's "What the Starbucks?!" Protest was a big hit! Despite the spring showers, a small but mighty cohort of GMO Insiders drew the attention of passersby at a Starbucks store in downtown Washington, DC, by handing out flyers, holding signs asking Starbucks for organic milk, and striking up conversations with people walking by.
We're still waiting to hear back from Starbucks about our request for a meeting, so until then, keep up the good work! Check out photos from the protest here, share the petition for organic milk with all of your friends, and don't forget to bring a comment card whenever you go to Starbucks (and stay friendly with the baristas).
The 2014 GMO Labeling Fight Begins: Colorado
After months of delay, the Colorado Supreme Court overturned a major challenge to the Colorado GMO labeling initiative led by the biotech and processed food lobby in March, approving the collection of petition signatures necessary for getting the initiative on the November 2014 ballot. A voter win in Colorado - a renowned center of eco-awareness and healthy lifestyles - will be another critical milestone in GMO labeling, and is needed to help support Vermont as it now faces the threat of lawsuit by the Grocery Manufacturers Association.
In the next 60 days, Right to Know Colorado needs to gather over 100,000 petition signatures to qualify the labeling initiative for the November ballot. We know Colorado is ready to pass GMO labeling into law, but we need your support to make it happen.
