GMO Inside - If corporations won't label GMOs, then we the people will.
Dear Green American ,

Planning anything special for your sweetheart this upcoming Valentine's Day?

Make sure to show your love for organic, non-GMO alternatives instead of the conventional Valentine's Day fare.

Sugar is most often sourced from major GMO crops, like corn and sugar beets, which are used to make high fructose corn syrup and processed sugars. In addition to the usual environmental and social impacts of GMO crops, unchecked sugar consumption can contribute to risk factors that increase the likelihood of heart disease, type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol. To honor the upcoming holiday, we'll be delving into the details on America's sugar addiction, tips for kicking the sugar habit, and the unjust labor practices of the sugar industry over the next week. Check out the first installment on the GMO Inside blog!

Even though overconsumption of sugar comes with some serious baggage, it is Valentine's Day after all.  But don't settle for the usual box of Russell Stover chocolates or stale conversation hearts. Tell someone you really care by giving them sweet, non-GMO alternatives that are good for people and the planet (click here for our suggestions).

"Honey, I'm nuts about non-GMOs"

General Mills is patting itself on the back for removing GMOs from original Cheerios - without third-party verification. Honey Nut Cheerios is the next step on General Mills' path to a more sustainable future. And this time, verification is a must!

Sign the petition to CEO Ken Powell asking him to remove GMOs from Honey Nut Cheerios, seek third-party verification, and repeat with the rest of General Mills' products.

Want to tell General Mills that you're breaking up with GMOs this Valentine's Day? Post your breakup letter on the Cheerios Facebook page

Just Label It: Only Organic

Just Label It introduces its new campaign, Only Organic!

Only Organic aims to highlight the benefits of organic food and help consumers distinguish foods with misleading "all-natural" labels from real, organic foods. Only certified organic is produced in a way that Mother Nature would recognize as natural!

Shame on you, Smuckers

In 2013, Smuckers teamed up with the GMA to spend a cumulative $22 million dollars on misleading political ads to defeat I-522 in Washington state. As a company that relies on its family-friendly image, CEO Richard Smucker must stop funding anti-labeling efforts and support consumer transparency in the marketplace.

Environmental Action has activated tens of thousands of people across the country to send emails to CEO Richard Smucker, clog Smuckers' phone lines, and take over Smuckers' Facebook and Twitter feeds. Take back our food system and support consumer rights by signing Environmental Action's petition (click here).
